The “Every Thing But the Kitchen Sink” Business Startup Program for New Entrepreneurs Who Want a No Muss, No Fuss Business Start-Up

The Virtual Incubator Business Startup Program is the only system to turn your good idea into a great business…ready to start making money in less than 90 days!

Hi, this is Jeff Williams. I’m the chief business startup coach for Virtual Incubator. For the past thirty years I’ve been working with Gen X and Boomer individuals like you to guide them to find great satisfaction and attractive reward as the owners of their own independent business enterprises. In the process of working with more than 2,500 individuals on their business startup plans, the following are some of the issues I’ve heard over and over again. Some – perhaps all of them – may sound familiar to you.

First and foremost, you want to center your business around work you really enjoy doing. If your corporate career was like mine was, you’ve held a number of different jobs, often with different employers. Some assignments have been fantastic, most just average, and one or two have been dreadful. You’ve “been there, done that” with unceasing pressure to perform in work that doesn’t excite you, for which you receive few rewards, and from which you can be fired on a moment’s notice.

You’re nowhere near ready to stop working altogether, but you’re very ready to work at a more relaxed pace. Unfortunately, those of us who are over 50 are increasingly being made to feel unappreciated and unneeded in the corporate world. But, you still feel very energetic and know that you’ve accumulated a diverse set of work and life skills. You want to continue to “be in the action” but you’d like to slow things down a bit…schedule your work life around your leisure life.

Although the thought of actually running your own business excites you, you have no desire to create a “big corporate thing”. Instead, as effortlessly as you can you want to bring your business to life in such a way that you can successfully manage it, part-time, full-time, or just sometime.

You’d sure like to boost your monthly income, and avoid tapping any of your retirement assets for awhile longer if you can. You find very attractive the thought that you are the primary determinant of how much income you can make…no more 3% annual salary increases; arbitrary bonus awards; or dead-end jobs with no opportunity for promotion…just a personal income limited only by how much effort you want to put into your business.

Ok, if the above fits you, you’re in the right place and please keep reading.

Your Good Idea + A Smart Plan =
A Great Business

You just want to get into business doing what you’re really good at doing – I know this. But, if your new business is going to produce your desired income and be fun to run you need more than just a good idea. You also need…

A marketing strategy that identifies your desired customer and how to sell them. You need a written plan that clearly describes your desired customers and how you’ll find them and convince them to buy from you.

A top-notch business identity all the way from a killer logo to a traffic-stopping website. You’ll need the services of an expert graphic designer and website developer to achieve this.

A well-organized business that meets all legal requirements. Once you “open the doors for business” the last thing that you want to receive is a threatening letter from some government agency telling you that your business isn’t properly set up. Remember, you want to work in a more relaxed way and you don’t want any unexpected hassles from the government.

A sound financial plan that assures profitable sales and reliable collection of what you are owed. To create and maintain such a system requires smart use of accounting software and likely the assistance of a local accounting professional.

Get Help to Start Any Kind of Business

Our hundreds of Virtual Incubator clients have started a wide variety of businesses, including:

Consulting Firms. These individuals learn how to best showcase their special knowledge in order to attract top-notch clients who pay top-level consulting fees.

Business Service Providers. With the major outsourcing effort by corporations this category is red-hot right now, as just about every business service you can imagine is being performed by independent contractors today. We show you how to grab a share of this business.

Consumer Service Providers. With many two-income households today, people have less and less time to complete even basic home and life-maintenance functions, such as cutting the grass, shopping for clothing and gifts, planning family events…and many more. We help service providers find the most demanded service categories, so that with a little word of mouth the business almost sells itself!

Web Store Sellers. This is a great way to “get your feet wet” on selling products over the Internet. It’s not unusual to see a motivated online seller go from  a couple-evenings-a-week to a Power Seller in just months. We help them create a solid business plan to guide them as they grow.

Retail Food Service Operators. Success in running  a restaurant or fast-food outlet absolutely demands practical experience in food service. But it also requires a carefully thought-out marketing plan and tight financial control, which we help train our clients to perform.

Wholesale Sellers. More and more large manufacturers are selling almost exclusively through wholesalers, particularly to smaller customers. Learn how to maintain a strong posture when dealing with suppliers and customers who are often many times larger than you are.

Industrial Distributors. There is a lot of money to be made distributing the thousands of industrial parts needed and offering repair service on industrial equipment. Our clients who specialize in this business category learn how to organize their business so that it can grow with tight control on the growth of overhead costs.

Product Manufacturers. There are substantial financial and operational challenges to bringing a new manufacturing company to life. So, we show our client who are interested in making and selling a product how to use contract manufacturing, offshore production and joint marketing agreements.

You Protect Your Business
and Yourself

In just a few steps you set up your business legally. Our expert business registration team will guide you through an easy-to-follow online registration process to protect your personal and business assets by establishing your business as a Limited Liability Company (LLC), a form of corporate-like legal protection.

You’ll keep the IRS happy. Our support team will obtain for your business a Federal Employers Identification Number (FEIN) through which the IRS identifies your new business.

We’ll discuss other legal needs. You may wish to use a formal written contract for selling through your business. If so, we will guide you to obtain the necessary document.

We’ll review your insurance needs. Most new businesses are well covered by the liability portion of the business owners homeowners insurance policy. But some businesses, such as IT consultants, may also wish to obtain Errors & Omissions insurance. If so, we will help you find appropriate coverage.

You Plan for Maximum Profit
and Manage Your Money

Price for maximum profit. Being aware of your competitor’s pricing is important in setting your pricing. But, your business may offer unique benefits that permit you to successfully charge more than your competitors. We’ll help you evaluate your market position and its affect on you price/fee-setting.

Know where your money is. The success of your business doesn’t come solely from pricing profitably. You also must keep track of money coming and going out your business. To do so you need to keep reliable financial records. We will assist you in acquiring and installing QuickBooks accounting software to aid you recording where all money came from and went to.

Find sources of money. Many of our startup clients are able to successfully operate their business the first year with a total investment of under $10,000. Most provide this funding from personal savings, home equity loans, or family-provided loans. But, if you and your Virtual Incubator coach assess that you will need a significantly larger amount of cash, he willl work with you to explore lending options.

You Manage Your Space, Operations & Personnel Needs

Review your space needs. Most of out startup clients choose to run their businesses from a home office. Their den or basement space is sufficient for their space needs. But, for some of our clients, such as distributors and manufacturers substantial additional outside space is required. Your Virtual Incubator coach will help you assess your special space needs and guide you in your search for appropriate space.

Examine your human support requirements. Your Virtual Incubator coach will train you in a variety of management tasks. But, there are a number of specialized tasks we strongly recommend that you delegate to outside expert contractors. These include:

  • Graphic Design
  • Website Design & Maintenance
  • Web selling copywriting
  • Social media content sharing
  • Tax planning and tax return preparation
  • Bookkeeping

Your Virtual Incubator coach will assist you in finding suitable contractors (some are already in the Virtual Incubator support network) and arranging relationships with them.

Evaluate Supplier and Process Needs. For distributors and manufacturers in particular finding appropriate component, parts and services vendors is critical to success. Often these suppliers are much larger in size than your new business which can present challenges as they may “make you jump through hoops” to work with them. Your Virtual Incubator coach is very experienced in finding appropriate suppliers and properly contracting with them.
